This year’s Spring Lecture Series theme is Migration.

Migration is essential to human survival. Whether driven by the spirit of discovery or hope for a better life, whether forced by conflict or required for access to resources – massive change alters us in small ways and large. How do we adapt to these uncertainties in a mindful way? What are the predominant patterns we can learn from and look towards? Our four lectures explore conflict-driven migration, climate change migration, regional migration that crosses state lines and interplanetary migration to Mars. We hope that this assembled group of experts can help us appreciate how migration can be a uniting force.

Speaker Bios – Conflict-Driven Migration

Eliza Montgomery & Don Weinreich, Ennead Lab
Ennead Lab is an outgrowth of Ennead Architects’ professional practice. Ennead Lab identifies civic challenges and opportunities, creates and sponsors innovative design solutions, and promotes these solutions as an impetus for civic discourse, education, community improvement, a sustainable environment, and urban progress.  The Lab is dedicated to expanding the traditional boundaries of professional architectural practice by promoting experimentation, invention, education, collaboration and action in the fields of architecture and design.  The Lab casts a wide net, by collaborating with community groups, government agencies, research institutions, and nonprofit organizations.  They then share their research and ideas through exhibitions, public workshops, and lectures.

Don Weinreich is a Managing Partner in Ennead Architects. He graduated from Columbia University with a Bachelor of Arts and earned his Master of Architecture from the Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. In addition to his project-related responsibilities, Mr. Weinreich is responsible for the office’s technology development, leading the implementation of new ways in which architectural computing can be incorporated into and advance the firm’s practice.

Eliza Montgomery is a designer at Ennead Architects and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies from Bard College and her Master of Architecture from the Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation
