Baltimore’s Washington Monument: Restoration Plans for a Third Century

TWO ON-SITE LECTURES OFFERED: 11 a.m. – 12 p.m./ 12 – 1 p.m.  Meet at Mount Vernon Place, South Square (Lafayette Monument)

LANCE HUMPHRIES, Ph.D., Restoration Chair of the Mount Vernon Place Conservancy, will offer two on-site lectures on the nation’s first public memorial to George Washington, which put Baltimore on the map as the “Monumental City.” Learn about new discoveries that have been made in preparing the colossal column for a multi-million dollar restoration in anticipation of its 2015 bicentennial from members of the project team. Each lecture will conclude with a Q&A session including Tom McCracken of McCracken Consulting and Tyler Tate and George Wilk of Lewis Contractors. The lectures are offered in partnership with the Mount Vernon Place Conservancy.

 

Price: $12 public; $8 members. Free for full-time students with valid ID.

Each on-site lecture is limited to 20. Advance, pre-paid registration is required. Register by calling 410.516.5589.
