PARK(ing) Day 2014
September 19, 2014 @ 11:00 am - 6:00 pm
On Friday, September 19th, in Baltimore and cities around the globe, architects, landscape designers, artists, and citizens will transform metered parking spaces into temporary public parks and other social spaces, as part of an annual event called “PARK(ing) Day.”
Initiated in 2005 by Rebar, a San Francisco-based art and design studio, PARK(ing) Day invites people to rethink the way streets are used and promotes discussion around the need for broad- based changes to urban infrastructure.
For the second year in Baltimore, a team of design firms and nonprofit organizations are taking the initiative to new heights by co-locating 20+ spaces near the corner of Morton and W. Chase Streets in Mount Vernon, surrounding the Baltimore Chapter of The American Institute of Architects (AIABaltimore). The “parklets” will be open to the public from 11am-6pm on Friday, September 19.
Visitors will be encouraged to share their experience using the hashtag #BmoreParkingDay.
Participants in the PARK(ing) Day installations include AIABaltimore, Baltimore Architecture Foundation, Marks Thomas Architects, Floura Teeter Landscape Architects, Morgan State University, Section-1, SHW Group/Stantec, and Ziger/Snead Architects.
