Tour of St. Mary’s Seminary and University

May 26, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

1 AIA/CES LU available

Join us for a tour of the St. Mary’s Seminary and University with architect David Gaudreau, AIA.

The massive Beaux Arts seminary, set back from Roland Avenue across a vast green lawn and appearing like a grand palace, is home to the first Catholic seminary in the United States, established in 1791. The seminary was orginally on Paca Street, site of the historic St. Mary’s Chapel designed by noted architect Maximilian Godefroy.

The seminary moved to its current building, designed by leading ecclesiastical architects Maginnis and Walsh, in 1929. The seminary prepares seminarians for Roman Catholic priesthood and, through its Ecuminical Institute, provides religious education for students of all denominations.

Tour leader David Gaudreau, AIA, is Principal of Gaudreau, Inc. The Gaudreau family has been providing architectural services for the seminary for decades. David has worked with numerous public and private sector K-12 school systems as well as colleges and universities. David’s educational clients include the Archdiocese of Baltimore, Calvert Hall College High School, Delaware School for the Deaf, Gallaudet University, Cornell University, University of Maryland, Morgan State University and Bowie State University.

Staff at the St. Mary’s Seminary and University will also speak about the religious history of the building.

Meeting Place and Parking

Parking is available at the seminary in front of the main entrance. Meet at the front steps!
