Baltimore, MD– Joan Floura, founder and president of Floura Teeter Landscape Architects, Inc. (Floura Teeter) received a SmartCEO Baltimore-Washington Skyline Award in the category of Architecture/Design for her firm’s work on the Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore. Floura was one of seven winners from a field of 25 finalists announced during a lunch event held May 6 at the Bethesda Marriott attended by more than 200 finalists and supporters.
The Horseshoe Casino was completed in August 2014. The two-story, $442 million facility is the second-largest casino in Maryland, and its design is intended to make a positive environmental and lifestyle impact. Floura Teeter transformed the former brownfield site with specialty paving and extensive street tree and foundation plantings. Their plan for the sustainable project also features rainwater capture and reuse, which ultimately reduces runoff into the Chesapeake Bay and overall water consumption. Revitalization of this site has mitigated potentially hazardous material as well.
Floura says, “The Skyline Award is a source of great pride to Floura Teeter and to me personally. The Horseshoe Casino is just the beginning of a dynamic new entertainment district in south Baltimore, and we are honored to be recognized by SmartCEO for our role in creating the best possible environment for those who live, work and visit there.”
The Skyline Awards program honors companies in the Commercial Real Estate industry that are shaping the landscapes and changing the skylines of the cities in which we work and live. From visionary developers and financiers, to the engineers, designers and contractors that bring the vision to life, to the professional brokers and managers, these individuals and companies work in a symbiotic relationship that breeds innovation, change and progress for not only the business community, but the local community at large
