Baltimore, MD (May 26, 2016) —Oasis Design Group and RK&K won a 2016 Merit Award in Analysis and Planning from Pennsylvania-Delaware Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects for the firms’ design and planning of South Wilmington Wetlands Park in Wilmington, Delaware, as part of the South Wilmington Wetland Restoration and Conservation Project.
Oasis and RK&K created a master plan for the approximately 30-acre urban wetlands Park that has been touted as a national model by officials at the White House Council on Environmental Quality, the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control and others. The firms worked with the City of Wilmington and its stakeholders and led and facilitated public stakeholder meetings.
The firms’ master plan provides natural retention and recharge areas for the surrounding Southbridge neighborhood’s stormwater to reduce flooding and creates new green space and recreational opportunities within the Park for surrounding future development. Oasis and RK&K reserved natural areas of the Park, completed a preliminary analysis of surrounding land uses and coupled those with engineering studies to identify opportunities for Park access points and amenities including picnic groves with pavilions at key vantage points, walking trails compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act and a series of wetland boardwalks with natural area interpretation stations.
The City of Wilmington wrote a Congressional Appropriations Funding Request—Fact Sheet for the $24 million Project.
