The Sandlot Opens at Harbor Point

sandlot
Baltimore, MD (June 15, 2017) – A former industrial site is now home to a new venue. Mahan Rykiel Associates, a local landscape architecture and planning firm, partnered with Beatty Development, BHC Architects, Chef Spike Gjerde and Corey Polyoka’s Baltimore Foodshed restaurant group to create Sandlot.
Sandlot is an interim installation as Harbor Point, a twenty-seven acre redevelopment, continues its build out. Mahan Rykiel’s team planned the space in collaboration with BHC Architects and Baltimore Foodshed using materials like construction grade tubs for growing hops, repurposed pallets for sculptural elements like a green wall, planters and an amphitheater. Bocce courts are built with basic lumber frames filled with crushed stone. Tivoli lights frame the various programmed spaces, including beach volleyball, bocce, a hammock lounge area, a climbable play sculpture, dinning and open beach area.
Sandlot opens tonight and will operate from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on the weekends.
