SUMMARY:Latrobe’s Legacy: A Walking Tour of America’s First Cathedral
DESCRIPTION:Join AIA Baltimore’s Historic Resources Committee for a behind-the-scenes tour of Baltimore’s Basilica of the Assumption. \nStep into the legacy of America’s First Cathedral in this walking tour of the Basilica of the Assumption\, a triumph of renowned Architect Benjamin Henry Latrobe. This tour will review the historical and architectural significance of the Baltimore Basilica and invite those in attendance to areas not always open to the public. From its original construction beginning in 1806\, to its most recent award-winning restoration completed in 2006\, the Basilica’s construction history and the balance between historic integrity and modern intervention will be reviewed. \nPresenter Jane Strausbaugh has served as the Docent for the Basilica of the Assumption since 2018. She is an award-winning writer and producer of visual media (film\, video\, animation) for broadcast\, educational\, cultural and corporate entities. With a Master of Liberal Arts with an Art History Focus from Johns Hopkins University\, she is well entrenched in Baltimore’s historic scene. Her education also includes a Master of Arts in Communications from Antioch University\, as well as Bachelor of Arts (History) from Wheeling Jesuit University. \nRegister now. \nContinuing Education – 1.0LU|HSW pending
