The artwork of Ruth Connell AIA will be featured in an upcoming solo exhibition at the Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts in Annapolis. Ruth Connell is an artist, an architect and an educator.
The exhibit, titled “Inside + Outside,” will include oil paintings and lithographs featuring landscapes, tropical foliage, building interiors and color studies.
As a visual thinker, Ruth explores abstraction, organic form and color relationships. She describes “Inside + Outside” as “a reference to the tension between the interior life of the mind and the exterior world. As an artist my work moves between the inside and the outside, between perception, emotion and interpretation. In the more literal sense, I enjoy making art inside and outside, inside my studio and outside in the environment.”
Born in St. Louis, Ruth Connell grew up in Corning, New York. Ruth was educated in art history at Vassar College, and earned the Master of Architecture degree at the University of Pennsylvania. Ruth has dedicated the majority of her career to architectural education, teaching at the University of Miami, the University of Florida, SUNY Alfred, and for Architecture at Morgan, the NAAB-accredited graduate program in architecture at Morgan State University since 1991.
Ruth Connell re-discovered painting in 2006, and began the study of lithographic print making in 2012. Ruth lives in Annapolis, and maintains an architectural studio focused on residential projects, Ruth Connell Studio Architects. For more information, please visit www.ruthconnell.org.
