The Mullan Contracting Company Captures National Pyramid Award from ABC

Baltimore, MD (March 14, 2016)The Mullan Contracting Company has won a national Pyramid Award, signifying excellence in construction, from the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) for The Edward St. John Student Center, located on the campus of McDonogh School in Owings Mills. The 26th annual awards program was held on March 2 at the Greater Fort Lauderdale and Broward County Convention Center in Florida. Last year, Mullan Contracting captured an Award of Excellence from the ABC Baltimore Chapter for its work on this three-story, 75,000 square foot building.
Opened in 2014, The Edward St. John Student Center was designed to serve as the center of campus activity for the Owings Mills coeducational school. The building includes an infirmary, fine arts and dance studios, a dining hall that seats up to 685 students and flexible spaces to accommodate dining, classes, meetings, lectures, grade-level gatherings and special events activities.
The Edward St. John Student Center was designed by Bowie Gridley Architects. The ABC national Excellence in Construction Awards recognizes innovative and exemplary merit shop construction projects, world-class safety and diversity programs.
“Together with our construction of the adjacent Naylor Building, these two projects accomplished McDonogh School’s goal of creating a new quad that unites the campus,” explained Joseph Rode, President of The Mullan Contracting Company. “Our team successfully constructed an extremely difficult forty foot high clear span ceiling, which we accomplished without the utilization of tie rods. This was necessary to execute the dramatic presentation of the grand dining hall and is the showcase element of the structure.”
