President’s Letters August 2025

Summer- sun, sand, and reflections

As the season unfolds, we find ourselves not only enjoying the warmth of summer but also looking ahead to the exciting opportunities that lie ahead for our community of design professionals.

Each year, the Chairs of our Design Award committee travel to a quadrant of the country, visiting a different city in search of new architectural professionals to review and judge our Chapter’s Design Award submissions. This year, the Design Awards is headed to Cincinnati. Could your project be the next to receive the AIA Baltimore Grand Design Award?

We are now accepting applications for the 2025 AIA Baltimore Excellence in Design Awards. This is your chance to share your work and help us celebrate the individuals, firms, and organizations who shape the built environment and enrich our communities. We invite you to submit your projects and be part of this important recognition. This year’s celebration will take place on Friday, October 17, at the Engineers Club at the Garrett-Jacobs Mansion.

But that’s not all we have planned this season.

The chapter is getting ready for a bright day in the sun for our 37th Annual Golf outing on Monday, August 25, 2025 at Eagle’s Nest Country Club. Located within easy driving distance of the city, the course accommodates beginners and practiced golfers alike. The golf outing is the perfect chance to network with architects and other A/E/C professionals while supporting the great work of AIA Baltimore and the Baltimore Architecture Foundation.

As we savor the joys of summer, let’s also take a moment to embrace the importance of rest and reflection. In a profession rooted in creativity and innovation, stepping away—whether for a weekend getaway or a quiet moment each day—helps restore perspective and spark fresh ideas. These pauses aren’t a luxury; they’re vital to sustaining the energy and inspiration behind our work. Before long, school will be back in session and college dorms will fill once again—so take this time to be present with loved ones and create lasting memories together.

With autumn approaching, let’s take full advantage of these remaining weeks of sunshine, camaraderie, and creativity.

Wishing you a restful, inspiring, and joy-filled summer.
